I just built a box to some JL specs I got from JL.  It's a slot port that is tuned to 32hz.  THe sub for it is a 12W7.  In my search for box plans before JL's response, I came accross some stuff about installing some little unit that cuts off the frequencies below the box's tuning's.  I have never used anything like this before, and was just wondering if I should start to use them and what the benefits are.

I have a JL 1000/1 to power it, and after reading the w7 pdf on the jl site, I believe the Infrasoniq filter will do the same thing as the part I am trying to describe above.  I think it just cuts off all the frequencies below the boxe's tuning.  So In my case I would set it to 32hz.

It is called a subsonic filter.  32Hz is quite high.  JL recomends high cut off frequencies to get the sub to handle high power inputs.  If you are not running near the max RMS value, you can get away with a much lower subsonic filter, or even none at all.

so set it to 25 hz like the w7 pdf says, even though the box is tuned to 32hz?

I am at at the max rms value,  it's a 12w7 with a jl 1000/1 on it.  I believe 800-900 watts rms is jl's max area on the w7.

Set it to 25Hz.  12W7 is happy at 800 to 1000 watts in the proper ported enclosure.

cool, thanks.  ANd is a proper enclosure.  JL sent me some plans for a slot port, and I have a family member in the cabinet bussiness.  He has some machine that cut all the pieces of the box from one sheet.  I think the things tolerance is like 0.001"  so it's hard to get a box built to more proper specs How or what is a bass cutt off? -- posted image.
