If its a descent amp then if it lists it is 1 ohm stable then it should handle a 1 ohm load. Subs (or any speakers) dont stay at just one impedance, it depends on the material being played and the speaker. I have a read review of home speakers that were rated at 6 ohms and they stayed at 1 ohm for most of the review. Some quality amps dont mind a 1 ohm impedance load if not pushed too hard... but i wouldnt push it.

No amps that I know of. It's a selling point that the the audio company will want to tell the world. Older Orion cheater amps were 1ohm stable, but didn't say it. that's all I can think of

Or if an amp advertises that its 2 ohm stereo, that will mean its 1 ohm capable.  But not many amps do that.  Remember that most of the amps now a days that advertise 1 ohm stable can handle it pretty well and you can push em pretty hard.  That is, like customsuburb said, if it is a quality amp.

Can anyone reccomend a 1 ohm mono amp to push a single Alpine R 12?  I don't want to break the bank, but want something decent.

Many mono amps are actually stable at 1 ohm, but don't advertise the fact because they don't meet their advertised ratings at 1-ohm.  As the load impedence drops, noise, humm, IMD, THD etc. all rise dramaticaly and the S/N ratio drops.  So even though the amp may be stable at 1-ohm the performance goes to hell.  On the other hand, some amp makerss (like Boss) who don't care about clean performance wil;l advertise their amps can remain stable all the way down to 0.5 ohms.  They don't tell you anything about their performance there, though.

hey sonicsound, i'm pretty sure that when most class AB amps are 2 ohm stereo stable they are only 4 ohm mono stable, i don't think any are actually 1 ohm stable. i could be wrong though. but when i've seen an amp advertise that its 2 ohm stable its only in stereo and mono is always 4 ohm.
what!?!?! you want some??

I had a JBL BP1200.1 that ran 1.5 ohms very solidly.  I bet it could of done the extra .5 ohms.  I believe it even says in the manaul that it does one ohm, but it doesn't list it on the box.  Says 2 ohm stable, in the manual it says "no power gains for 1 ohm"

Wow, I'm susrprised that only one other person caught that, way to go Kickerstang.

2 ohm stereo = 4 ohm mono

Alex75, what is the voice coil rating of your sub, if it is a dual 4 ohm arrangement, then 2 ohm mono is all that you will get unless you buy another identical sub.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
