It really depends on where you are building it and what kind of space you have to work with.  There is more than one way to design an amp rack.  Some people keep it simple and build a frame out of MDF, then they cover it with carpet and drill a few holes for the wires to go through and then screw the amp onto the box on top of the carpet.  Then there are people who build all kinds of funny shapes with MDF or weld metal to hold the weight and be the base of the amp rack.  Then they wrap the frame in fleece and resin that and then add layers of fiberglass mat and more resin.  Then they sand the fiberglass and bondo it and sand the bondo to make it smooth.  Then they wrap it in vinyl or carpet or paint and clearcoat it.  Then they screw the amp onto that and run the wires also.  Really with the materials available today, the limit is your imagination and skill.

yea, for me id just build a frame, wrap it in fleece, and glass it.  of course, thats the extremely shortend version, but thats basically it.  theres a couple cool installs on this site that they take you thru, or at least you can get a basic idea from them.  http://www.hzemall.com/
