Need Help W/ Locks 88 Mustang

I just finished installing an Astra 777 in my Mustang, and I wired the locks through relays.  12v in to 87 &86, (-) input from the alarm to 85, and cut the wires at the drivers kickpanel and ran them to 30 & 87a.  When the alarm energizes the relay, it blew the fuse that was on the 12v.  I started with a 15, and went al the way up to a 30, and nothing.  Is it neccessary to actually catch the wires at the drivers switch, and not in the kick panel?  The locks still work fine through the switch, just not with the alarm.

  Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks for the info.  I did fuse the 12v line.  I started with a 15 amp and went all the way up to a 30, and it blew as soon as the relay was energized from the alarm.  I double checked the wires, and I them wired teh way that you have described.  Is it possible that the lock circuit takes more than 30 amps?

Thanks for all the info guys.  It turns out that when I tracked the wires out of the door, I inadvertantly switched them.  I.E., I had the switch going to pin 30, and the motor side hooked up to pin 87a.  Boy, don't I feel stupid.  All is great know, and again, thanks for all the help.
