i have a 91 accord and im redoing the whole interior, My car is electron blue pearl as of now. Thats the color of the 1999-2000 civic Si's. my interior is currently painted to match the exterior. But i want to keep the door panels blue at leats the top part of the door panels blue and the inserts i wanted to do in a carbon fiber material. Does anyone know where i can get a carbon fiber material and how efficient and long lasting it would be. Also, whats beter to repaint the upper part of the panels or to just use vynil. The people who painted the interior the first time did a crappy job and its starting to crack. I dont know if they forgot to primer itor something. But im thinking of doind it.  around how much time do painted doorpanels last and what does the process on painting them entail. If anyone knows something that would help please help, thanks in advance for the help.

I tried to fiberglass mine, they are too much work for me. I am going to find a doorpanel that will fit my door and just get it vinyled (or do it myself). I think the vinyl look will be more pleasing for you. I have a 93 Accord. I posted what my panels looked like about a month ago. You can check the pics if you want.

That's a whole lotta questions you got in that one breathe !! Here goes:

  • If you want to do carbon fiber it will require a vaccum table or something similiar or you can get that overlay carbon fiber decalling
  • To repaint the doors, you will need to strip the old stuff off and then get a flexible primer sprayed onto the door. Sand this down smooth and then you want to apply the paint. Some places can put any color you want into a spray can and then you can spray the interior yourself if you want. After you spray the paint let it dry and if you want another coat do another one. Then you can put on some layers of clear and wet sand afterwards with 1500 grit. Cut and polish if necessary for a great finish.
  • To do this process properly it may take the average person without the proper tools days to do. If you know what your doing with the proper tools, it can take a couple of hours ( not taking into account the drying process ).

thanks for the help guys, I think im just going to go with painting the door panels and and dash. I dont know how difficult it is to vynil but i dont think i will find a vynil color that will match up with the exterior metallic blue paint. However, i will keep searching for vynil colors. I have painted before and it does not seem that difficult so i think it would not take more than two days for the whole interiror, (thats including the drying process). Once again, thanks guys.

THANKS JEFF, Although Im not so sure about the whole painted interior anymore. I was lookingat some vinyl fabrics that claim to be carbon fiber textured on the select products website. I know that doinf the whole interior in vinyl is a tedious and exhuasting task, especially for me since I am new at vinyl but i think i can manage. I just dont know if all there is to applying vinyl to door panels and dashs is as simple as making sure the surface is clean and streching the vinyl over it.  I also dont know how much vinyl i will need and if the products in the website are actually worth the price. (I think its about $15 per yard). Ah! so many decisions and so little time.

The hardest part of vinyl is to make sure that you stretch the maerial tight enough and also making sure that it sticks to the surface that it's going onto. Spend the money on the best spray glue possible that will hold up to extreme hot/cold conditions so that it will not lift from the panelling.

The vinyl thing is a good safe idea. After you have stuck it down you should staple the lose sides to the mounting board. Always cut about an inch over the template on the outside.  Feel the vinyl, don't go on price alone. All it takes to ruin low quality vinyl is a cigarette (I know). Use good quality (non-plastic) mountings, the original  tend to be bad and won't handle the extra weight.
