I know there's a calculator for this as I've been using it alot lately - heh heh...maybe I missed the rules, but when a sub has a volume rating, does that include the sub itself or does that have to be added as well?

Sounds basic I know but I would expect a manufacturuer to include/subtrat the volume of the sub itself when they give the requirements.

Most manufacturers don't include the sub's volume (some do though).  You need to make a box with this in mind.  Taken directly from RF's manual... "The speaker itself also reduces the internal volume.  The amount of air displaced by each model is listed on the specification sheet and should also be subtracted from the gross volume calculation."

But, a sub doesn't displace a ton of room so it shouldn't mess up your box calculations too much.

I agree.  I hightly doubt you would be able to hear a difference even with the large supersubs.

Thanks very much. I've got more ideas than experience in this so this forum - and all your inputs - have been a gift to find.

My box is square then tapers at the bottom for its location/application. The sub's volume - a Boston Pro 12" - requirement is 1.0....my box figures to be .99572, so I'll call it goodFiguring sub volume - Last Post -- posted image.

Thanks again.

Can't get much closer than that   :)
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
