I need help with a little problem.

This is what I will be running(have not installed yet)

  • Pioneer GM-X962 2-Channel Amplifier 760 X 1 For Subs
  • Pioneer GM-X564 480 Watt 4-Channel Amplifier For Speakers
  • Pioneer TS-C130R 5.25" REV Component Speaker Package (Pair)
  • Pioneer TS-C160R 6.5" REV Component Speaker Package (Pair)
  • Pioneer DVHP-7000 DVD Receiver
  • Playstation 2
  • and 3 TV's

I am not making some type of competion car.  This car is a Honda Civic Ex 1993.  I have made it in to a Euro car and now want to put a better system in it.  Most of the time the Tvs will not be on and if they are most of the time it will be one.  Any of this questions will help.  E-mail me at xXxBJRxXx@yahoo.com or reply  to the request.  The questions I have are.

     1.  I have a little battery.  Should I get an optima, but if I did I could not fit it in the hood.  Can I run it to the trunk?

     2.  I want to know what is the best alarm?  (opions)

   3.  How should I run the power.  2 power wires( 1 for amps and one for tvs.)?

    4.  Should I use a capacitor and were should I put it.  Do I need one for Tvs?

   5.  People say it is good to run the power on one side of car and RCAs on the other is this true?  Plus is it ok to run ground and power wires parallel?

   6.  I want to know what gauge of wire should I use?  Can to big of wires ever be bad?

    7.  For my playstation what is the best way to give it power?  Before I had and power converter that went in the lighter.  I am putting it in by trunk now so what is the best way?  can I split the wire on the converter and run it straight to my battery?

  8.  I would like to get a high powered alternator.  Saw  one that is 120 amp.  I don't even know what mine is now.  Can I get bigger and if I do is there other parts I have to change when I get a new alternator?  Can I run two?

  9.  Were should I put fuses and what kind?

  10.  Finally question is if I have a capacitor what happens to the energy when car is turned off?  Is it stored in there when car is off.

p.s. thanks for any help.  take your time in ansering any question.

1.  I have a little battery.  Should I get an optima, but if I did I could not fit it in the hood.  Can I run it to the trunk? Size doesn't matter ( hehehe ) but CC amps do. Get an Optima Yellow top for best bang for the buck

     2.  I want to know what is the best alarm?  (opions)  It's not the alarm that is the best... it's the installation. The alarm only gives you luxury options like keyless entry, windows open/close, security and remote start options. Get a 2 way pager system that can let you have constant surveillance of the car. A good one is the Aladdin a-2000, DEI, Alpine ( with pager ), Clifford & Ungo

   3.  How should I run the power.  2 power wires( 1 for amps and one for tvs.)? Off a ditribution block straight from the battery

    4.  Should I use a capacitor and were should I put it.  Do I need one for Tvs? Use a capacitor for the amplifier and install it after the distribution block from one of the outputs on the block.

   5.  People say it is good to run the power on one side of car and RCAs on the other is this true?  Plus is it ok to run ground and power wires parallel?Yes this is true about the RCA's. The ground should be no longer than 3 feet ( as a rule ) other wise you will not get a very good ground because it will be too long.

   6.  I want to know what gauge of wire should I use?  Can to big of wires ever be bad? Use about a 4 gauage wire minimum and 2 gauge should be sufficient for the power you are running.

    7.  For my playstation what is the best way to give it power?  Before I had and power converter that went in the lighter.  I am putting it in by trunk now so what is the best way?  can I split the wire on the converter and run it straight to my battery?  Yes you can hard wire it to an Ignition power source so that it will turn itself off when the ignition is turned off. Otherwise it will drain the battery if you or your buddies forget to turn it off for you.

  8.  I would like to get a high powered alternator.  Saw  one that is 120 amp.  I don't even know what mine is now.  Can I get bigger and if I do is there other parts I have to change when I get a new alternator?  Can I run two? I suggest just running  higher power alternator. The size of the casing will not change.... just the interior coils are wound tighter for a higher output of current. Installing a higher output alternator will never hurt... just the pocket books that's all : )

  9.  Were should I put fuses and what kind? Install a breaker type fuse( 100 amp ) by the battery about 18" from the battery and use a fuse type distribution block for the amps and the capacitor in the back of the trunk area or somewhere accessible for ease of fuse changing.

  10.  Finally question is if I have a capacitor what happens to the energy when car is turned off?  Is it stored in there when car is off.  The capacitor will eventually dissipate the charge in the caps and it will eventually have nothing there over time

p.s. thanks for any help.  take your time in ansering any question.

No problemo

1. What kind and size of TV's are you hooking up?

2. Ive always preferred DEI alarms. Sidewinder,Viper, Automate etc.. Perhaps because thats what I install 90% of the time. But I've had less customers come back with problems with DEI as compared to Avital, Audiovox, and Alpine.

3. YES run seperate power for the TV and the amps.

4. Capacitors will help if you decide not to upgrade your Alternator or add an extra battery. No you dont need a cap for your TV's.

5. YES always run power and RCA/speaker wire down opposite sides of the car. It is perfectly fine to run power and ground down the same side.

6. Use 4 gauge and a distribution block for the 2 amps. I have always just used 8 or 10 gauge for TV/VCR/DVD power but i dont know what kind of TV's you are running.

7. Yes you can split the wire from a converter. Cut off the end with the cig plug.. leave yourself about an inch of wire with the plug so you can plug it in and check which wire is pos and neg. Then just tap the pos wire into the power running back for your TV and ground the other.

8. Never had the need to upgrade an alternator so cant give an opinion.

9. You shoulde fuse all power wires tapping off the battery about 6 inches from the battery. The size of the fuse will be determined by how much draw the accessories you have hooked up to them need. For your amps just total up the fuses on the 2 amps. For example if 1 amp has a 20amp fuse and the other has a 40 amp fuse you should go with a 60-70 amp fuse by the battery.

10. The cap should store energy for quite a while after the car is turned off. Dont play around with a cap thats been charged. They still can shock the hell outta ya.

Well hope that helps some.. Good luck with the system :)
