Hi all,

I have a 1969 VW Beetle that I am currently in the process of re-wiring (12Volt) and would like some advice on the following please.

I want to remove the factory ignition switch and replace it with 2x toggle switches and a push button starter just to be a little different. The toggle switches are as follows; http://www.overboost.com/obs/product.asp?pid=22820 and the push button starter is this model; http://www.overboost.com/obs/product.asp?pid=17541.

I want to use 1x toggle switch to replace the factory ignition switch accesory position and the other toggle switch to replace the factory ignition position, and then use the push button switch to start the car.  The entire system would also have this switch for security; http://www.overboost.com/obs/product.asp?pid=22830

My question is, is this type of setup possible?  The factory iginition switch is rated at 30amps accesory, 10amps ignition and 5 amps starter, so if the switches aren't rated high enough, I could use a relay/switch combination correct?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this... :)

Mark

First of all: sorry for my english but I'm french guy :) but I think you will understand my post Ignition Switch Re-Wiring -- posted image.

yes.. you MUST use relay to drive this.. and I recommend you to use them.. just to do a relay box under the hood and all the wires trought the firewall is just to switch the coil of the relay.. so.. you can have a 2 amp rated switch to drive a relay.. so don't worry about it! if the fire want to start.. it will start under the hood and not behind your switch Ignition Switch Re-Wiring -- posted image. hehehe

Good luck

ok, couldnt understand the post above.... but, hahah...

yes you can for sure use realays to boost the current and i would also suggest it... use fuses on the 12v+ inputs on the relays also. if you have more questions on actually how to wire the relays gimme a holler
