So... does anyone have any opinions on good quality 2-way remote starters? Alarm is not really needed but if included at a decent price, I'll pay for it.

What about this Aladdin 2000? I've heard of it but only from the shady "performance" shops in Chinatown. (IE workmanship from these places are less than stellar...)

Price to performance and feature wise, which do you have/choose? Thanks.

All three are very good systems. The only beef I have about the Compustar is the size of the CPU.... it's huge and you have to try to hide this bohemuth under the dash somewhere afterwards with the wires and such astrostart 4104 vs Compustar 2wfm - Last Post -- posted image.. Not too impressed when it comes down to installation of the unit.

Hey Temujin

My personnal fave is gotta be the RESPONDER from DEI !  66-bit Code-Hopping for total security, programmable from a hand held or the Bitwriter, has an ESP serial port which interconnects to their Video system for on screen diagnostics, accepts up to four responder remotes with full 2-way on all four, tried and true security based on the 553 series r-start and security combo, 2 flex channels, long term event history, high security disarm, 40 amp external relays, the brain no bigger than a pack of cigarettes makes it very easy to hide, . . .and I'm just starting!  astrostart 4104 vs Compustar 2wfm - Last Post -- posted image.

Although I do like installing headunits and speakers myself, a remote starter is a little to complicated, so I'm going to pay someone to install it. How much is the "responder"? I know Velocity Motors sells the Aladdin for $185, the 4104 sells for around $299 and the Compustar is about $400 or so.

Funny thing about DEI is that it's owned by Direct Electronics, Inc, which owns most of the major consumer brands. With low-quality products (IMO) like Sidewinder and Wasp to high quality products like Clifford and Avital, it makes me wonder if they aren't all the same product under that plastic box.  astrostart 4104 vs Compustar 2wfm - Last Post -- posted image.I'm no expert in this area but I know about business practices... Make it as cheap as possible and sell it for as much as you can get for it.

I really like the cabin temperature sensor on the Aladdin... astrostart 4104 vs Compustar 2wfm - Last Post -- posted image.astrostart 4104 vs Compustar 2wfm - Last Post -- posted image.

Hey Temujin,

I've been installing DEI for over ten years and I can definitely tell you that it isn't the same stuff under the skin 'cause Ive opened up more than a few.  Clifford and Avital is just that, Clifford and Avital.  They were bought out by DEI in 2000 and existed way before then.  DEI is like GM - a smart organization run by sharp people.  Not everybody can afford a Caddy STS nor necessarily wants one so they make the Sunfire or Sierra crewcab dually.  Are these all the same under the skin?   (I'll let you answer that one)

DEI designed the first hand held remote for auto security in 1984 at a time when guys were drilling their fenders to install a key switch to turn their systems on and off,  and have pushed forward always catering to the needs of the buying public.  Which eventually netted the Responder 2-way.   It's not the cheapest on the market but definitely so full of features that you get your money's worth!  I sell them at around $569 installed  (Canadian).  Unfortunately you'll never find a WASP Responder at 199.95.  Sorry!  astrostart 4104 vs Compustar 2wfm - Last Post -- posted image.
