What's up with magnet size ? Should magnet size be taken into real consideration when choosing a subwoofer ? Personally I have found that magnet size doesn't have a whole lot of correlation with performance. I just wondering what yalls experience is ?

No...... strength of the magent depends on the materials used in construction.

http://www.ultimate-sounds.com/volfenhag/subs.htm ........an example here of how the riff-raff of the industry uses such things as magnet size to attract the ignorant and unwary first-timers. BTW, those are real Volfenhags...not the fake ones! ;)

Sorry Steve. I'm not sure what ur getting at. Did you post that site to show an example of a sub with a big magnet but not so big sound ?

Crap construction, zero R&D, fake country of origin by the use of a German-sounding name, crappy sound, literature that insinuates high quality....all marketing gimmicks with a low level product. Most of what you see with this "brand" consists of emphasizing the magent (thanks Rob for the help with the spelling) weight. It was the first thing to come to mind when I read the post question. I clicked on one of those shown there, the ones with the magent sticking up at the camera.....180 oz. Now, by golly, that must be a super competition subwoofer!

I agree with the consensus. There are way too many things to take into account. First of all, too much motor force can actually hurt you. You need just enough for the intended design. Also, a really large magnet used poorly can just be a waste. For instance, a motor that uses huge magnets but doesn't have much steel around to direct the force of those magnets (called magnetic flux) is a waste. Picture a lot of people at the DMV (magnetic flux) and only one teller is open. You have a lot of people not going anywhere.
