1988 saab 900 turbo

having trouble with the power locks. the remotestart went in fine but i cant seem to figure out the keyless entry. how would i use the relays?

It would help if you mentioned the brand of your remote start. :) One common choice is that your RS will have a lock and unlock wire (often green and blue). If those wires are labeled (- lock) and (- unlock) hook them directly to your cars lock and unlock wires. (Check w/ a DMM to make sure that the wires are negative polarity-- i.e., that they go to ground when the lock and unlock buttons are pressed.) Another choice is that the RS will have 2 built-in relays. In this case, there will often be a six-pin harness (often w/ wires colored purple, PURPLE / black, GREEN/ black, blue/black, white(/black??) and brown(/black??). If that's true, hook the purples to ground and the GREEN/ black and blue/black to the lock and unlock wires, respective (again, after confirming w/ a DMM how those wires work). Me

its a vallet 556, and the vacume locks shoot ground as a constant. would i just be able to use relays? or would i definetly have to go with an aftermarket actuater?

The only 556 I know is a little clock/temperature thing that controls a remote start. You will be able to use relays. When you say they "shoot ground as constant", do you mean that when you lock (or unlock), the wires go to ground? Or do you mean that when you lock (or unlock), the wires go to 12V, and the rest of the time they go to ground. If there's one wire, and it goes between 12V and ground depending on whether you're locking or unlocking, you can use the vac locks diagram on this site. If there's two wires, and they rest at ground (and go to 12V when unlocking and locking respectively), you can use the 5-wire diagrams also on this site. In either case, you'll need 2 relays (added yourself or built into your RS). I'm going on vacation now, so I won't be able to follow up on this. Sorry :(    Me
