heres my question. will the factory bmw immobilizer system have any effect on the car not cranking? am assuming if its like most immobilizer systems if its not properly bypassed the car should at least crank but not start.
heres my situation....
we installed a remote starter on a 96 bmw 3 series, when i pulled the car into the shop i noticed it took more than one try to turn the key and get the starter to engage, but at the time thought nothing of it. pulled the car in the shop, installed a alarm/remote start and used a dei 555B to interface with the factory transponder system. upon completing the install everything worked fine, no problems. about a week later customer calls and says the car will not start with either the key or the remote start. i looked into, checked my starter kill connections and i had 12 volts on both sides of the cut starter wire, but the vehicle would not crank. so my question is.. if there is a problem with the factory transponder system/ or my interface with it, would that cause the car to not even crank?

on the bmw, the factory immobilizer functions exactly as you've described.....it will not crank if the system does not "see" the right transponder. there's a couple of possible things that could be happening here. is it possible that your dei555b is turned on at the wrong time and the car is receiving signals from both the key and the dei555b at the same time? will the car start if you remove the dei555b?
here's another simple thing that i have a tendency to forget about when i'm trying to think too hard....are the battery terminals on tight?
all problems can be resolved with a hammer
