Hi guys,

This is my first post to this forum, as well as my starter install. I have a '99 larado with the gray key, A Avital 4000 starter that was used in a previous car installed by a shop and removed by me. a 455j and a 555u. i have double cheaked all connections a bunch of times however they could be incorrect.

Here is what i have not connected, parking lights due to wanting to be sure of myself on the cutting of the post on the relay, however i did connect a test light to the parking light lead and that blinks

Also the gray white wire is not connected, this is the factory alarm disarm - output

I have tach signal comming from a coil wire.

The 555u and 455j get there signal from the gray black wire, remote start armed wire

I have the door locks working fine, green. arm/lock off the 455j to the blue white, lock wire

The 455j blue white disarm drivers side door connected to the green white - unlock

Then the 455j blue/ disarm all is connected to the dark blue, trunk  (if there is another way without any more outputs than i have please lmk so i can open the trunk)

the reverse and brake are connected together, since i need to push the brake to get it in gear

WOW did i take some time to get to my issue or what?

Issue is the car starts, and runs for about 3-4 seconds then shuts off, I have tried both keys. I have also connected the 2 blue wires off the 555 and 455 to either alarm disarm and the remote start armed wire, also i connected them to the batt. ground and chassy ground neither of which worked i have tried to unhook the 555 and hold the key near the ignition switch.

The car seems to run longer with the doors open, but not very much maybe a half or full second longer

Also if this means anything, when i probe the blue wire off the 555u it lights the test light very lightly red

That is all i can think of to descibe my troubles, any help would be great.

Thanx in advance, And thank you to all those who have created this wonderful site

Brian B.

You didn't teach the unit the tach signal. Also, what color is the wire that you used for the tach input ?

Try this to see if it's the Sentry system:

Start the Jeep with the key and then press the remote start button. The Jeep should stay running and when you remove the key, if the Jeep shuts off, then it's a wiring issue. If the Jeep stays running you have no wiring issue and it's a sentry system bypass problem. I'm guessing it's the later of the two.
