I need to pull the factory stereo/AC dash piece in a '98 Mercury Sable (not mine).  Tried to use the u-shaped removal tools....which fit perfectly, but pull right back out.  I think the dash piece is stripped.  Any tips on getting this out without those tools???  Hopefully it won't require pulling the dash.  Should I just bring it to a shop, and let them deal with it?

Also...With a setup like this, what would be involved in putting an aftermarket head unit in a setup like this??  The AC is incorporated in to an oval dash panel.

Man, I am glad this isn't my vehicle.

did you just pull the din removal tool straight out? or did you do it like your supposed to..which is moving them outwards while pulling out...sometimes it helps to move them around...so the hook on the end of the tool catches the radio and pulls it out.
Buy it, install it, play with it. Then take it back out, read the instructions, install it better!

I moved them in, out sideways, up, down, you name it. They just come out.
