i just bought an 02 cavalier a week ago and am already planning to tear it to pieces to make it how i want it.   anyway, i plan on putting at least keyless with an alarm on it, maybe remote start if funds approve.  i was just wondering if the wires are basically the same as the 2000 since thats what it goes up to on here, and what extras id need, like theft bypass, etc.

basically what i need to have done is i need to install power locks, since i have no power options. i have the standard cdplayer which i took out the 2nd day, no chip on the key, and no preexisting alarm or anything. im not an idiot when it comes to wiring stuff up its just that i dont wanna mess it up when i have 5 years of payments left.

thanx for info,  hellraiser

ps  what would be a good system thats a decent price yet a good value?

Best bang for the buck and able to upgrade...ultrastart 2250. Alarm/remote start/keyless entry...has a shock sensor built in that you can set by remote and striking the car as hard as you want it set. it also has a temporary shock bypass if thunder/lightning is setting alarm off from remote. works awesome with a lot less false alarms. Cavalier doors are easy to install power door lock actuators in, lots of room to work and slight bends for actuator bar, easy door boot to run through. This car has the passlock 2 anti theft system on it, and the resistor is in the lock. you need to bypass this only if doing a remote start. even if your cavalier is a stick shift, the 2250m is for a manual trans. a little more wiring, but still fairly easy. what's nice is you can upgrade this later to a 4255 two way alarm remote start and keyless by just plugging it in to the harness. The wiring is all the same as 2000. if you want just an alarm and keyless, the u660 two way alarm is sweet for the price. any more q's gimme a shout
I tell it like it is...

so with the passlock II antitheft, it doesnt matter what key you put in as long as the ignition itself is left untampered?  not quite understanding this system.   i only have experience with VATS on my old 90 camaro.....thanx alot for the info also.

VATS and passlock are very similar. they are both resistance based imobilizers. I use DEI's 555l to bypass this
