2000 Grand Cherokee start problem.

I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee that I would like to put a remote start on, but recently having a problem. I have to put the key(grey covered end) in the ignition, flip it on and off 5 times, and then it will start right away. Even if I put the key in the ignition and turn it to on for a few seconds, it won't turn over. I bought it used 2 years ago, and it only came with one key. Has anybody heard of this problem, and could it be the key?

Have you had the ignition wires looked at ? Was it like this from the day you bought it or has it progressively gotten worse ?Jeff

No, it just happened a few months ago. Somebody told me it was the fuel pump seal, another told me it was the programmble key. I may need to inspect the ignition wires, and test them to make sure they are operating correctly.
