I want to install a remote starter on my 99 chev s-10 w/manual trans. I have heard of new systems made for manuals where you leave the vehicle running, get out, lock the doors, etc. I also read, on this website, about a switch manufactured by a company that makes installing a remote starter safe with any brand starter. I was looking for any information on these systems and any opinions on brands. I also want to see if people with these systems have found them to be safe.
Also, what is involved with bypassing factory antitheft, etc.
I just finished installing a crimestopper remote starter for a friend on an automatic and I think I would also like one with a 2 way. How does crimestopper measure up to others.
   Thanks for any information.

I dont know if you have compustar in the states but if so they make a good two way manual starter. I have installed heaps of them and find that they work good. Make sure when you buy any starter for a manual car that the starter is made for a manual.

I've seen a few companies selling compustar, they seem like they have some good stats on them. I'll have to check them out. My question must have been too long. I guess I was just looking for anybody that has had experience with the remote starters in manuals.

most manuel transmission starters leave room to fail the do monitor the door triggers and the e brake but if you window is left down, animals in the car. some thing shift it can knock it into gear and it will start. when we do manual trans we install a mag switch on the shifter that will only operate when its in neutral just tie the mag switch into the hood pin and your set. On some cars it can be pretty tricky but its usually pretty easy on trucks. Just pull the boot of and mess around with the mags and switch and you should be able to get it to work.

I agree with cgalvin... One on the front of the shifter for the forward gears and one facing to the rear for lower gear positions (magnetic read switches, normaly closed wired in series). Put the base on a bracket and the magnets on the shifter.   We hook ours to nuetral safety switch wire but either way works, if you do hook it to the hood pin wire use normally open switches.  Like cgalvin said the alarms designed for manual trans are kinda lame.

Just a quick one, I am going to install a remote start and alarm soon. I printed the vehicle wiring diagram for my 99 s-10. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the "Ignition 1", "Ignition 2", "HVAC 1", "HVAC 2", "Accessory", "VATS", and "Sense" wires control. Just incase there aren't enough outputs on the unit & so I know what i'm doing.
thanks
great website, keep up the good work

"Ignition 1" -  This goes to your primary ignition wire on the truck ( PINK )

"Ignition 2" - This goes to the 2nd ignition wire on the truck ( WHITE )

"HVAC 1" - Not sure but it's suppose to be the same as the ACC wire that controls the HVAC.

"HVAC 2",- This goes the 2nd ACC wire on the truck ( NOT NECSSARY FOR CONNECTION BUT IT"S BROWN )

"Accessory" - This goes to the primary ACC wire on the truck ( ORANGE )

"VATS" -  This would normally control the ON/OFF of a bypass module. In this case you need to conenct this wire to the bypass module for the Passlock system on the truck.

"Sense" wires control. -  Without knowing more about this wire, I'm thinking this would be a tach wire input, but make sure of what it's asking for before connecting to anything.
