Pioneer Head Unit install Problems

I bought a Pioneer head unit, and a harness for my car and figured I would simply splice the colored wires together and plug the connectors together and it would would work, but ofcourse, it doesn't.  I untaped all the wires and taped them back together twice, and it still didn't work, so I put the stock deck back in and it didn't work either.  The car is a 1996 isuzu Rodeo and everything is connected fine.  I tried all the fuses and even swapped the audio one for my rear tailight fuse and it still didn't work.  Does anyone have an idea what happened?  Could the wires be fried?  What should I do?

I didn't, I bought a harness for the deck and one for the truck then spliced the same colors on each one together.  Even if I spliced the wrong wires, why wouldn't the stock deck work?  Also, I used a voltometer and found that there is no power going to the harness when the car is running.

first things first.take a test light or V O M  and verify 12volts,on the switched lead&constant lead. and check the ground with an ohm meter,make sure it has very low resistantsto ground ,and turn on your parking lights while your checking your ground. most of the time you park light (dashlight)lead will test ground.if there off,if everthing tests ok and your wiring is all good ,soldered or crimped. then there is a deck problem.if you have no constant 12v check under the hood for a blown fuse check w/ test light do not just look at it.
