i'm using a cheap jensen amp to run my two jbl gt series subs. whenever i use the switch to turn on or turn off my subs i don't experience any "pops", but there is a time delay, it takes 1 or 2 seconds for the amp to turn on or off. but i have experienced the popping sound crroush has mentioned. whenever i turn on my head unit, the subs would pop, even when they are turned off from the hu controls. but when i turn them on or off, there is no delay.
