I got a 82' Camaro (3rd Gen.) Z28. I put in a the whole door popper kit and everything works fine....somewhut. When I got the car from my friend he put in solenoids that are made for electric locks and not for opening the bear claw! They work after hitting the button many times. He told me a 75lb sol. would be needed, but it sounds like to much.

Does anyone know the correct soleniod, of lbs, that will open on the first or second try!?! It doesnt take much to move the lever, but I dont want to buy a second solenoid if I'm wrong....... that and I'm poor, so I dont want to wait a few more weeks to get the right one.

Any help would be nice, so I dont have to crawl through the back over my system and the rest of the car shaved door handles - Last Post -- posted image.

i do lots of shved kits.

you can get away with 20lb solonoids. make sure there isn't too much tension on the cable that does the pulling.

as far as door lock actuators....toss "em, seriously they aren't designed to work that hard replace them asap and use the correct solonoids.

75 pound solonoids could open the door of a semi-trailer you don't need those, also use the kick out plates that are spring loaded, they help in pushing the door away from the jamb when the solonoid actuates.

thanks for the info. I just got to wait for them to come in the mail.

I got the spring loaded thingys already, I know if would be a pain in the ass without them.

First you have an old car, a 20 lb wouldn't even pop my civic's doors. Second a 20 lb solenoid will not work on your car. You should have gotten at least a 35 lb, a 50 lb would have been better. Third, WD-40 is going to be your best friend, coat the entire latch with it at least 2 times.

dude all i do is old cars, lowriders,air,hydro,bombs i use these things religiously, a 20lb is perfect for this application. i have used 20lb solonoids on old caddys without the kick outs, they work.end of story.

keep in mind this guy wants to do poppers on a budget and if the 20's will work why spend more for something that does the same?

Just personal experience. I have had problems with 12 lb actuators, just for locks, in older chevy trucks.
