1996 GMC Jimmy tach wire

When testing with a multimeter,

Set it to AC Volts

Set it to the lowest possible setting.

Ground the black probe

Strip a small piece of insulation on the suspect wire.

With the engine running, touch the red probe to the bare copper wire.

The numbers will bounce around a little

but the number will increase with a higher RPM level.

Usally between 1 - 5 volts.

If this happens it is the correct wire.

Thank you for the help, the white wire did just what you said so i knew i had the right one. Just got done installing everything but it will not start. I pushed the key button 2 times and all i get is beeps from the remote and the control module sounds like a turn signal flasher.

You need to program the tach. To do so follw these steps.

1) Turn the key to the on/run position.

2)Press and release the program switch 3 times.

3)immidetaly turn the key to off.  (alarm will cherp)

4)immeditaly press and hold the program switch and start the car by using the key.

5) the unit will flash the led and/or parking lights when the tach is learned, then release the program switch, The tach has now been learned. You should be able to remote start it know.
