1992 Cadillac Seville/ Hade unit install

OK to start these cars are a pain....

Go to the trunk remove the cosmetic cover piece from the front of the trunk against the back seat so you can see the amp...The amp is on the right side of the trunk...Should be a silver box with heat sink fins on one side....

On the bottom of the amp there are 3 plugs...These are the plugs AFTER the amp where you will get your speaker connections...On TOP of the amp there are 2 Plugs...These go to the front of the car to the factory head unit Thats where you will get power for the aftermarket HU...

You will need this harness (Nevermind what it says about not fitting)....

On the bottom of the amp unplug the 3 harnesses...Plug in the 2 speaker harnesses into the aftermarket harness (They only fit one way so you will know which is which)...This is important The harness that goes to the power section of the aftermarket harness plug it back into the amp....do this so that the harness in the dash will be powered and grounded...OR....Make jumpers around the amp connecting the power to the top harness so the wires up front are hot...If you do this UNPLUG the 2 harnesses from the top of the amp also.

NOW...Get a Digital Multi-Meter and check the impedance of the factory speakers...I believe the factory speakers are 1 ohm...(the car I worked on already had the speakers replaced) IF the factory speakers are NOT 4 ohm or higher you will have to replace them before you hook your aftermarket deck to them..OR wire them in a series config to get the Impedance to at least 4 ohm, in doing this you will lose you Ballance/Fade so I would just replace them..... If they are 4 ohm and up connect some speaker wire to the aftermarket harness you bought and run them to the dash to connect to your HU...

Go to Autozone or Advanced Auto and get an FM antenna Extension Cable....Also get a GM ANTENNA ADAPTER...

The antenna is plugged into the amp as well.....Plug the Adapter into the stock Antenna in the trunk...Then plug the Extension cable onto that..Run the extension cable to the dash...Also you have to power the antenna so either run a wire from your aftermarket unit (remote turn on) to the relay on the antenna to activate it or get ACC power from the rear at the Amp harness that you plugged back into the amp on the bottom... (Antenna will extend when the car is on)...

On the dash harness use the multi meter and find 12+ GND and ACC....I think if I remember...The Yellow Wire on the factory harness is 12+....The brown wire next to the Yellow is GND....And there is a BROWN / Blue(???) on the other end of the same harness that is the ACC.....

Make all the proper connections and you are in business.....

After I did the one...My advise is Leave them be....I could not find an adapter so that I would not have to do all the above if you find one please post back to tell me...

I dont think I left anything out....

One, why don't you use the proper harness for the car? It's makes the job much easier and you don't have to do much extra work.

Second, on the Bose systems you cannot use that harness as the Bose systems are common ground front and common ground rear.

Third, that is not an amplifier where you are stating, that is a tuner box. The amp on the Bose systems are at each speaker and the amp for the Delco system is behind the back seat accessible from the front only.

ka3vvv, if you want to make the job easy, use Metra part number 70-1857 for the Bose systems and 70-1856 for all others. Those harness' both include an antenna extension and a 17' long harness to go from the rear of the car to the front. The Bose one has rca's instead of speaker wire and is pinned according to the common ground Bose input. 

I hope this post does not sound harsh as emails and such are so inpersonal. I am just trying to educate and make this site even better.

For starters the equipment I listed cost around 30 dollars....The harness you listed was 80.....

So what If I miss-labled it as an amp....

and what I listed above is not that hard...I just went step by step so that he wouldnt have any question....

And both ways do the same thing...So we are both right...My way is cheaper though...
