I'm looking at these two amps for a five channel set up, anybody have an opinion on which one is better for SQ? The specs are pretty similar and the price isn't the issue. I'm looking for best sounding amp. Thanks

I'm looking at the two right now....  and the specs are pretty different...  The JL has 100x2 watts front, 25x2 watts rear, and a 250 watt sub channel.
The memphis has 50x4 and 200x1...
But anyways,  for the sheer sake of consistency, I'd go with the Memphis over the JL any day.  I feel JL amps are a bit over-rated.  Plus, how can you beat a 40 year old company like Memphis?  They have 20 years on JL....

JL stuff tends to be overrated and overpriced. Plus I like memphis amps, so I would say go with the memphis.

Yes the specs are different, but I was essentially only looking for opinions on the SQ/reliability difference since either amp would work for me. I was leaning towards the JL until today, so it looks like I have a little more research to do. I have heard nothing but good things about Memphis so more than likely thats what I will end up getting, but I'm still willing to look at other brands if anyone knows of something of the same quality or better.

On another note, one thing about the specs that did make a difference to me was the 100x2/25x2 on the JL vs. the 50x4 on the memphis. I understand that doubling the wattage to a speaker doesn't even come close to doubling the sound level, however I dont really think I need the 50wpc to the rear speakers as they are just intended for filler, and I would like to have the 100w up front if for nothing else to make me feel better. (125w rms speakers up front)

I have a 2dr yukon and the rear speakers are a pretty far distance back, so maybe I do need a little more power back there? Any opinions or knowledge on that aspect?

Thanks for the replys, I know that a lot of this stuff tends to be opinion based but I haven't had any experience with either JL or Memphis amps, so I'm trying to see what the general consensus is.

In my personal opinion, the speakers being further back is more of a reason to go with the Memphis.  You can try it in your car right now.  Set the fade closer to the front speakers.  It will probably sound a little awkward.  By getting an amplifier that provides even power to all 4 channels, you'll be able to run the same speakers at all locations, and still be able to have that full sound..
Can anybody else second or refute this?
