I'm using a design tech bypass module. Do I need to cut the key open to mount the transponder in the bypass box or can I keep the key intact?(this is the GM small headed key not like the Ford key )

been trying to reposition the key under the wire loop field but no good. want to verify if I'm going down the rite path before I butcher this key.  Is there another option?

thank  you,

Mark

no dont butcher the key , make sure the antenna ring is in the right position that is more likely your problem. are you using a module from   ie: dei, aamp or is it home made???

You shouldn't have to cut the key open for the transponder signal to be picked up.  Make sure the other details of the bypass are correct, i.e. wires going to the correct outputs from remote start, transponder ring securely around ignition switch, etc.

This is the bypass mod I use.

https://www.designtech-intl.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=114&lastcatid=3&step=4

It is the type that has a wire that needs to be looped around the ign switch two turns, then is fed back to the module, that is done.  and the key sits inside the module. I use these with the Ford Pats system with no problem.

But this GM Passkey III does not have the same type of large key head, it is smaller, and before i butcher the key I want to see if anyone else does it this way or another?

PS: I can place the key in the ingition switch and the car starts just fine by remote. also, the remote start unit does close the relays in the bypass module.verified all that. the module does energise.

I never liked these universal type bypass modules that has that key cylinder ring. The ring is always over sized and the module that the key goes into is also too big for some keys  ( not all keys are FORD keys ). The biggest problem will be placing the ring close enough to the key cylinder to introduce the signal to the Passkey III module.
