when installing a speaker in a door, could i put a bowl shaped enclosure right behind the speaker(1/4 gap between speaker and enclosure) to make sound better? even though there is only a little airspace, by making it sealed, would it sound better than just sticking it in the door?

Most component speakers are meant to be in a free air application, so no it wouldn't be a good idea, however if you can apply a sound deadening material on the inside of the door that can improve mid bass response.

i don't understand how sound deadening works on doors...........if you place it on the door, then screw the speaker  down over it, how does it improve sound quality.......i understand that when you apply it in your trunk,  the subs waves will bounce off it.......but how does it work in a door?

It makes the metal in the door less prone to vibrations which cause noise.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
