Greetings.  I have a 2004 mazda6 and METRA just released a single din dash kit.  I have compiled in my mind what the perfect install would be and have already been in contact with an installer to make it happen.  I'm not great with this kind of stuff, so I'm not sure if it will all be compatible.  Keep in mind I want it to look as STOCK as possible.

I want to have the D1 custom fit in my map pocket(compartment above my dash).  Since the D1 does not play DVDs,  I want a DVD receiver that I guess would have to go in the single din dash kit, even though this doesn't look as stock.  Now this receiver can have a motorized screen, or if possible, it can hook up to the D1 and display on the D1.  I would like the DVDs to be able to play while the car is driving for passenger viewing, but if not, it's not a huge deal.  I would also want the Pioneer XM and iPod addin.  I'm not sure if I can hook a DVD receiver/XM/iPod up to the D1.

Please give feedback, mainly, if this system can even work or not, and what would be the best stock looking option.  I can't wait to get this project going, I hope it works!

You can hook up the CD-IB100(Ipod), the GEX-P10XMT or GEX-P920XM(XM Receivers), SIR-PNR1(Sirius Receiver) and and external video source to the AVIC-D1. There will be some degree of difficulty in displaying video on the D1 while moving though, so you may want to consider an additional monitor, perhaps in the passenger sunvisor. By next week I am hoping to finally have my AVIC-D1 installed. I have an '02 Ford Taurus, so we had to glass a whole new dash peice to make it fit. I just installed my GEX-P10XMT(Pioneer XM Radio/Nav-Traffic Tuner) today, so I am anxious to get my D1 so I can use my enhanced XM features.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forums. There are a lot of great people on here to help you with almost anything.

Thank you very much for your help!

I've browsed a lot and have seen a lot of great people, I'm very happy to have found this place.

If I were to purchase a DVD receiver with a motorized screen, and hook it up to the external video source of the D1( right?) , would I be able to watch the dvd on the motorized screen while moving?

Would the D1 then be the main head unit, with the DVD receiver an AUX or something?

Thanks!

If you buy a motorized screen, make sure it is just that. You don't want to spend the extra money and have it have a built in tuner in it. I am not sure what is available out there that fits that description, but I am sure you will find something. From there you will run the audio outs into the AVIC-D1 and when you select AUX you will have the audio to match your video.

You're right.  I've been pricing together a DVD receiver..too much money.  I should only need a DVD 6 disc changer, that I can put in the trunk or under the seat..right?  If the car is parked, can the D1 display DVD movie if hooked up to a dvd changer?

Sorry, you can NOT post a reply.
