Pioneer IP-Bus. Will this work?

I've got a Pioneer AVIC-N1 that is great for navigation up front and video in the back but I'd also like to have MP3 capability up front without having to buy an iPod or any other similar MP3 players.  I am trying to achieve what Pioneer refers to as "tri-mode".  I have my older Pioneer DEH-P5500MP that is not being used and was thinking about installing it in an open DIN slot in my Honda Pilot and connecting it to the N1 via the IP-Bus and be able to control the 5500MP through the N1.  I'm not sure if this is possible but I was wondering if anyone has done this or knows if it would work.  Of course I can always connect the 5500MP's front preamp outputs to the N1's AUX inputs via composite cables but I only want to do that if the IP-Bus thing won't work.   Pioneer experts...GIVE ME SOME ADVISE! 2011 Ford F-150 Super-Crew FX4

The only problem I see is that the 5500MP is considered a control source and not a slave unit like a changer. It wouldn't hurt to try it though.
