Hello,

I have been considering opening a stereo and alarm shop of my own, land based, internet, or maybe both.  I have a few questions though.  I was curious about getting set up with distributors (which distributors are good, etc.).  Also I was wondering if there are any startup tips or anything that I probably wouldn't think of.  If anybody can answer these questions or lead to somewhere I can obtain this information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Make sure you set up good liability disclaimers and also make sure that it is CLEARLY visible and legible to customers. Also make sure that you have a complete checklist of a customer's vehicle before you start on it to ensure that everything was working prior to the installation. Nothing is worse for a starting busienss than a large bill to fix someone's vehicle and your not sure if it was your fault or if the vehicle was like that before you started.

Another thing is to take your time doing installations when you first start off, doesn't matter that your not pushing through 4-8 cars a day. When your a smaller business you want repeat business and good referrals, not bad comments and one time customers.

Take pride in the quality of your work, and as Jeff said, always, always, always, check the vehicle first. This covers your butt, and helps to instill customer confidence that you are paying attention to detail when it comes to their baby. Taking 5-10 minutes can save you hours and headaches. Make it "the habit".
