Never been a fan of sony gear, so you may have better luck and read this; https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=30864&KW=speaker+break+in

I believe break is real as speakers are mechanical motors that have suspenion parts that may be stiff...

Tyler, sorry to be on this point, but I don't see where a mono amp can have 2 channels. Now a two channel amp can be bridged into mono, but it's usually not stable at 2 ohms. Is it possible your using one channel on each voice coil?

I think its snapping becuse sony amps are not as powerful, its probably 400 watts max so like 150-200rms at most, and if ur runing 2 12 then there isn't enough power to push them and they get distorted. Get the new alpine amp as you mentioned and you'll see. Also put some polyfill into the box each pound of it tricks the sub that its in a bigger box and will hit harder with less rms watts. Try that with this amp that you have and see..
