Hi..I have a 2001 Prowler with a DEI Hornet 554 Remote start/security system in it...

It remote started itself yesterday....what would cause this?

The keys were in the ignition, no-one was near the car..there is no timer installed..very scary...

2way LCD remote?

Betcha it will start again today at the exact same time as it did yesterday....

24hr timer mode has been turned on on the remote. There won't be any indicator on the screen that it is on. Double check the owner's manual for how to turn it off (I can't quite remember how exactly at this moment in time) Have seen this a couple times though.

I did reset the remote, and turn off the remote start switch...I don't remember pushing the 2 buttons together to activate the timer..but it's possible................In fact, I last drove it on Wednesday..this happened on Saturday..very strange..

battery is near new...I'll dis-connect the battery and let it reset..

I've seen corroded fuse holders randomly remote start DEI systems. For some reason, if power is diconnected and reconnected to the remote start unit the system will start. At Circuit City we were required to intall a fuse at the battery and this lead to one or two a year coming back from random remote starting due to bad fuse holders!

there is a 4 pin harness off the remote start it has a pink, purple , orange and blue small guage wire .these r negitive triggers for the relays in the remote start relay pack. if the purple wire sees ground.....it will crank the starter.

Where theres is a wire there's a way.

554R used the older flying relays... no 4pin negative output harness at all, from what I remember. The 24hr timer isn't a function of the remote, you set it up from the remote, but the main module keeps track of it, so to speak. I know we had several of them do this a couple years ago. After one customer said that it seemed to start roughly the same time every day, we confirmed it was the 24hr timer (which has no icon on the remote display when activated, unlike the periodic timer of every 2,4,6 hrs). Pulling the remote battery didn't make it go away either. You need to turn it off from the remote.

To activate or deactivate 24 hr. mode press lock & panic together ...

i get at least one customer a year come in complaining of this.." the unit starts all by itself"...... as gus said, the feature is programmed into the brain and changing batteries in the remote wont erase it, also the 24 hr. icon only shows on the remote once you activate or deactivate the feature, then it goes away.....try the above once, the icon will appear, feature is active, do it again, icon will disappear, feature is deactivated.....
