I purchased a IDMAX 12 and it did not work properly when I got it so where I got it had it sent back to Image Dynamics to get it reconed. Long story short -- I still have no woofer about a month later. They are willing to refund my money and I'm about to take it and run. I've been looking at the Resonant Engineering XXX 15 D2 and am wondering about the experiences people have had with them and also what their opinions and such are about these woofers.

I haven't played with a XXX myself yet, but i do own a RE SE 15, and owned a IDMAX and the SE can honestly match the quality of the IDMAX even being a cheaper woofer. I have no doubt in my mind the xxx will be a very worth while purchase.

I am currently running a 12" XXX driver in a vented enclosure tuned to 33hz, getting 1600w RMS.  Let me tell you... I seriously doubt I'll use anything other that a XXX in a single driver setup.

I say go for it.

this sub is just more, more more, put it in a big mofo of a box and watch it pump. 1600w rms and this thing can handle it.

but wait last question about this.... should i seal it or port it, anyone have any experience with either? i like SQ but SPL is always nice... does this driver kind of go away from the SQ when its ported or would it still be good for SQ? my last woofer was an Orion H2 15 in a 4.2 cu ft box and it definately had pretty much no SQ and was pure SPL -- which was ALRIGHT but i like SQ to defintely be present

Definitely use a vented alignment and use anywere from 1500 to 2500w rms...  Call RE and they will give you personalized suggestions for enclosure volume and tuning frequencies.

If I had went with 2 12's I would have gone sealed (due to space requirements) giving each driver 1600w rms.

The sound quality of my system is pretty damn good considering I have mid range comps and rear fills... One thing that helps is the 250ft2 of sound deadener I have laid down.
