Bazooka amp overheating

i have a bazooka 500 watt amp and recently it has been getting extremely hot, it has never shut off though i had to turn it off when i realized how hot it was, coulda a fan have broken on the inside? i have a 92 honda accord and i have the amp mounted on the back of my backseat in my trunk, should i install a fan back there? would that keep it cool enough? thanks

is the ground good and tight? what ohm load are you running?

i checked the ground wire and it seems very tight and secure, i didnt see any heat sinks and i also drove with the back seat folded down allowing the amp to sit flat and it still over heated, how do i find out what ohm laod im running? thanks!

You need to disconnect the speaker(s) from the amp and measure resistance with a meter.My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

if one of your voice coils goes bad it will make your amp run hot. if it gets hot at any volume level that could be it. you can check them with multimeter. i have the same amp pushing three memphis dvc 10s and it gets hot but only after running bass cds for about a hour.rottenbellys 05 crew cab colorado.Pioneer dehp 880prs, kenwood excelon in all 4 doors. I've heard lots of stories about Bazooka amps overheating... but the basic troubleshooting advice above is good.  What make/model/quantity of speakers is the amplifier connected to?  How are they wired?  And what's the model number of the amp?Support the12volt.com

the model number is: EL2100 and it is connected to one pioneer 10' sub 500 watt sub

What is the load (in ohms) presented to the amp- check with a meter, and is that amp stable at that load?  How were the gains set?  How does it sound?  If the impedence (ohms) is okay for the amp, and you don't hear any distortion, install a fan and see if that helps.  As DYohn said above, Bazooka amps are notorious for this.My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
