Crossover & Speakers

I have Focal Utopia 165W3, they are a 3 way speaker.  I am using the xover that came with them.  I have a precision power  DCX1000 xover i want to use and would also like to use seperate amps for my midrange,midbass,highs and subs.  The amps are all precision power art series.  Would it be ok to use the DCX and not the xover that came with the Focals?  Thank for any input.

Thats realy a matter of preference but the manufactors normally mate their speakers with the crossover points.  But if you want to go with that setup you should just go with a 4 way active crossover and choose them yourself.Chad

If you change the DCR of the speaker, you will change the xover points on passive xovers... you really can't mix-up xovers like that very unpredictable results. Now, when you actually put the english in your post together, I can't really come up with anything that makes sense... you have 4 seperate amps that you want to use? Or you have the PPI monoblock and you want to use subs w/o passive xovers? Or what? I mean...

Are you asking if you can amp the woofers that came with your comp. set with that amp instead of the passive-xovers and the rest of the comp set? Huh? I'm really confused. "I'm finished!" - Daniel Plainview

AHAHA! Whoo sorry I didn't realize PPI has goofy model nomenclature... I googled 'DCX1000' and got the monoblock.. I didn't realize they make a 4-channel A/B version as well! Aight... okay its like this. The xovers on the DCX I *think* you are talking about actually look good for active setup.. but I don't think you are even trying to do that.. Here is what you need to do: Channels 1 & 2: Run these channels to the xovers that came with the Focals. From the xovers, run each speaker discretly okay? There should be outputs for each Focal speaker... tweet, midrange, and bass or midbass or subbass or sumthin like that... Channels 3 & 4: BRIDGE these channels to your subwoofers. You didn't discuss these but you said you had 4 different radiators so.. You should be using ALL the equipment you have. I don't see a way to wire all the speakers you have up without both the PPI amp AND the Focal xovers. Post back if I missed directions somewhere... "I'm finished!" - Daniel Plainview

We're getting closer,lol..   The DCX is a fiber optic digital crossover ppi made back in the 90's.  There are alot of settings on it.  It also has a RCM 1000 remote.
