Hey guys. Much needed help here. I just got both my amps today. MTX TA3401 and a TA3202. The 3202 is brand new and the 3401 came used. I hooked both of them up in my sisters car and it seems they don't work! I hooked up my other 3401 that I have previously in her car and worked fine. But both these amps do not light up! When I connected the RCA's into it, I could hear that scratchy noise you hear when you connect them. Thats the only optimism I have that makes me think they work...

Then, I hooked up her amp back up and her power light came on as red then died out. Her light should come on green and stay green! I'm facing two problems:

1. Either my amps are defective

2. or, there is a problem with my sisters wiring.

Anyone got any answers?

Could you elaborate all that in full detail for me? :D

Is there not a troubleshooting method to test things out? What is going on?

my first thought is of the remote turn on wire - how do you have it connected to the 2 amps?

using you dmm(digital multimeter) test the power & remote wire to make sure they are getting current. then check to make sure you are getting a proper ground. (check the first few posts in this forum). Also with the volume down check the speaker output to make sure that the amp's light isn't just burned out and actually working. rare but it happens.

Check power on wire, then check all the fuses on your amps + check your ground cuz if its not connected properly the amp will go into safe mode and not turn on.

next time you hock stuff up you NEED to turn everything off especially your deck so you don't have any problems with the rca's touching, if they do it shorts and bang have to buy a new deck.

The deck she has in her car is a piece' from walmart! If it burned out, I'd just buy her an actually decent one...

The first two times I installed my amp, I connected each, one at a time. I did not connect subwoofers to the amp. (Just did'nt want to bring my subs out as well, her subs would probably blow with my amp) I connected the RCA's, Power, Ground, Remote wire. Then turned on the car and went back to the trunk, and saw that it was not on.

So then I just tried the other one, without any knowledge of risking the deck doing this...

But now I know better since you educated me about it. Thanks.

What are the chances of getting two amps and both lights are blown in it? Thats rare. I think I should have entered the lottery this week.

How much one of those DMM's run for?
