Testing a Charging Capacitor?

Hi all. I need to know how to test a charging capacitor. I have a basic subwoofer setup in my 01' Yukon that consists of the factory head unit, a "old school" Punch 200, 2 "old school" Lanzar OA 15's, and a 1 farad capacitor. I have had this stuff installed for awhile and thought the 1 farad CAP would take care of the dimming lights when the base hit, but it does not. So, do I have a bad CAP or do I need a larger CAP? Is there a way to test the CAP to make sure it is still good? Thanks to all in advanced.

A capacitor will not take care of dimming lights.  It will help the amplifier maintain peak output during short hits at high volume, but it will not help the car's electrical system.  In fact, a cap can add additional strain on the electrical system.  If your amplifiers are putting too much load on the vehicle's system, you need a high-output alternator.Support the12volt.com

With a little math, a test light, and a meter, you can figure out the capacitance of the cap- but, as Dyohn stated, your vehicle needs an upgraded alternator.My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
