I going to build a sub box for my earthquake BR-1570.

I want to get it right the first time. I listen to rock and some techno. (a wierd mix, i know). I want to get good clarity and a good thud. Im not sure what to build.

Some say sealed is good for rock and then somenone turns around and says not it isnt.

What is the best box for my music.

By the way, does polyfill or whatever u use for dampening need to be deducted from the size of the enclosure to get yout desired size enclosure.

that link describes the characteristics of different type of enclosures. I believe ported is harder to build because you can mess up on the tuning. So i guess depends on your skill, if you got it then go for ported. Also ported hole(s) must be away from solid objects around 3" i think... so might want to consider location... anyway do some reading on JL website :) good luck.

If you want to get good clarity and a good thud I would not suggest putting that sub in a ported enclosure I would go sealed. As far as poly fill goes you will lose some of your low end response but you will gain the low mid response but it will hit a little tighter. If your going to use it fill the enclosure 50 % but I don’t think you need it.

I agree with bberman1 about the sealed enclosure. I can't remember the last time I fabricated a ported box for anyone. I always use a sealed box for most of the systems that I build because of the accurate bass reproduction as well as the ease of the fabrication. If you are using this for SPL purposes then I would suggest the ported ( rectangular slot ) but in your case you should get a sealed enclosure.
