I need a circuit that will take a single momentary negative input and provide a negative 1 second or so output on one wire and then if the input is given again within 5 seconds or so will provide a negative 1 second output on a second wire. This will be used for 2 stage door locks, but my remote start won't give me a dual pulse so I need to find another way to do it.

Are you looking to build your own solution or purchase a commercially availible product?

The easiest way to do this would be to use a bunch of pulse timers. Set one pulse timer to 1s and trigger it with your (-) signal. Set the 2nd pulse timer to 5 seconds. Use the outputs of the 2nd timer to enable a 3rd timer, that will be triggerd by a (-) pulse through the closed contacts of the 2nd timed relay.

You can probably use some 555 timers to do this also, but that would get a bit difficult. The best solution would be to use a programmable microcontroller, you could do this all with one chip and a minimum other components.

I think I get the basics of what you said. Could you come up with a schematic and parts list and I will see if I can build it. How much do you think this would cost? Would I be able to get the parts at Radio Shack? Thanks.

You do understand that there is only one negative trigger wire, correct?

Keep in mind that the drivers door will unlock every time you hit the unlock button, but this is typical of most priority systems.

The 3rd relay won't pull in when you hit the button the first time, because it doesn't have a (+) voltage on the coil. The 2nd relay will provide that (+) voltage for 5 seconds after the first pulse

I get that, but what are the TR's (timed relays?) and where do I buy them?

Pulse timers, or Timer Relays as I put it. You can get them from a variety of places, any place that sells alarm parts should stock them
