clifford intelliguard 8000

i have clifford's intelliguard 8000 alarm system in my car and im having a problem with the remote. i have changed the batteries multiple times thinking they were the problem to no avail. The remote only works about 70% of the time when i try to arm/disarm the alarm. when the alarm is armed i am forced to unlock the car manually and use the keypad to while the siren is going off. i have heard that this might be a common problem with the 8000. any info would be great.

i have not checked the antenna connections. i dont think that is the problem b/c it happens intermittenly. I walked out to the car last night to disarm and the remote wouldnt work. i didnt unlock it manually i just left it. then, this morning i walk out there and the remote worked fine.

If it is a older style antenna with the 2 inch by 3 inch box under the dash that says extended range receiver it probably is the antenna.  First try a different a second remote if you have one.  If it still does it then it is the antenna.  They had a problem with the initial run on those and if it a older system you could have a defective one.  Normally they just stopped working all together but sometimes they got intermittent too.  Also, if it is the companion remote you are having problems with check the battery strap inside the remote to see if it is pulling off the board.  Sometimes the solder connection breaks causing intermittent problems.

check the battery holder inside the remote, they are notorious for coming loose from the board. I have re-soldered mine more times than i'd like to mention...Shaughn Murley
