So just thinking- what if a vehicle that is programmed for tach sensing is in for another repair- and the tach wire is removed and not re-installed- or it is pulled loose, or cut unintentionally?  Does the remote starter now crank for 15 seconds- even though engine starts in first second? - does it shut down- not knowing it was started, then try again two more times?  This would be tough on a starter motor- does anyone know of instances where the vehicle's starter motor was destroyed by the remote starter?  perhaps in this manner?  I always try to "hide" the tach wire in other conduit, or make it as reliable as possible- but often wonder what other mechanics might not be as considerate- most mechanics I know hate aftermarket equipment and would like to disable it as soon as they see it.......thanks

The Audiovox stuff I install limits the cranking to six seconds, I believe. And three attempts to start, as you said.
But now that I think of it, on the cars I've seen where the tach wire comes disconnected, the car seems to only crank for about one second on each attempt---not sure why.

Some brands of remote car starters the starter stays engaged with the engine running when it does not see the tach signal. It make a lot of noise when this happens.
