the only ture way to test a VSS wire is with an ocilliscope, but you can but a meter on AC and check for a voltage spike. If you get the meter to read voltage while driving, then nothing when stopped, you probably have the wireauto professional

That is not correct, a frequency meter will read a VSS wire 100% accuarately.  You can get a nice meter like I have (~$400) or Craftsman sells a $30 DMM that will read frequency accuartely.  The nice thing about my Fluke is that it displays both frequency and amplitude at the same time, the Craftsman just shows frequency, which in reality, is all you really need.Kevin Pierson
