dash lights not working

i need help!!! i have a 1999 isuzu rodeo and the factory wiring end has been cut off i then wired it directly to the cd player as a result. i have lost dash lights since then. the fuses are all fine and no wires are touching each other. what can i do

More likely than not you have grounded out the dash light lead. Look in the fuse block under the hood. After you replace the fuse unplug the stereo and see which wire gets 12 volts when you put the headlights on. Insolate that wire.
There is no such thing as free installation!

Sounds like you've grounded the dimmer wire. Check your wiring in the back for an orange with purple wire, I believe? Could be grounding that out.

also whenever i turn on the dash lights the gear lights dim but no dash lights come on  and then when i switch them off the gear lights light up again.
