hey guys, i just installed an alpine navigation system in a 2003 toyota sienna, and the techsoft i got for it says its a violet and yellow wire at the ecm, well i found that wire, but it doesnt test. i havent doen much navigation, but i was always told that it pulses ground as you move the car. dei tech line says that the 2000 should be the same as the 2003, and sent me the 2000 techsoft. I've found one for a 2002 on the dei website, and its the same as the 2000. am i testing this wire wrong? could it be the right wire, where else can i find it? thanx guys ITEM      |     WIRE COLOR     |POL|       WIRE LOCATION        |

Frank,
You're right about how the wire should test. as the car rolls it should pulse ground. Not sure about the 2000 being the same as the 2003 though. DEI is usually pretty good with this stuff. If all else fails alpine makes a speed pulse generator.
good luck

The install instructions have a number to call alpine.  They are usually pretty good about giving the vss wire information to customers if not have the shop that sold it give them a call.  And yes the the speed sense is digital and will either be nothing or a ground and you do have to move the car about 6 feet to test so it is a good idea to have a second guy there to test.  Worst case it will be at the transmission.

i tested at the transmission, and also at the cruse control under the hood, all the wires either rested at ground, rested at 12volts, or had nothing no matter how far i moved the car.

Have you tested wires at the intrument cluster, it may be there if all else fails.  Otherwise I would call alpine.

i tested a few behind there. (the violet and yellow wire is also there) but it is the same wire from the ecm. which leads me to believe even more that it is the correct wire, but i dont know why it wont test.  when i tested i rolled it about 6-8 feet, is that enough? i used my logic probe from snap-on, i'll try agian with my meter tomarow. (thats when he is comming back to have that wire hooked up). otherwise i'm gonna call the dealership along with alpine. thanx for the help guys.
