I'm new to all this stuff and wanted to have a strobe powered up when my alarm sounds, i used a relay with the connections as follows:

86 - pos siren lead

85 - ground
87 - 12v +
30 - pos lead of strobe

With everything connected my siren and strobe doesnt work, if i unplug the siren lead then make the alarm sound then plug it back into the relat then everything works fine, but after a minute or so the same thing happens, nothing works.  Any help is appreciated.

try connecting the siren to the output of your strobe relay (30) and connecting 86 directly to the alarm module.

I am in the same situation as you but I fired my alarm brain trying to do the same thing. Hopefully someone will give us an answer.

As of now it seems to be working, i was at work when i tested everything out....should i use a diode on the line coming out of the alarm brain to protect from damaging the brain???

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

If it's a professional supply from Whelen, FedSig, Sound Off or the like then the input wire requires minimal voltage and you could run the output from the alarm to the siren and the supply.  Just put a 5amp fuse inline to the supply to be safe and everything should be good.  If you got a cheap Autozone strobe I don't know what to tell ya.
