Had a vehicle come back complaining of the remote starter not working. as soon as you would activate the R/S with the remote it would immediatly shut down. After messing with it awhile it turned out that the customer replaced the 1157 dual filament brake light bulb with an 1156 single filament bulb, thus... when the remote starter was activating and flashing the parking lights, the 12 volts was back feeding through the brake light circuit, sending 12 volts to the brake light wire on the remote starter immediatly shutting it down. Been installing starters for 10+ years and I have never run across this scenerio! might be a good prank for your fellow installer to troubleshoot!

EVOL...hahaha. Nice detective work though tracing the issue
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I second that. Great work finding that problem. The worst problem I ever had was trying to program a remote to a newly installed remote starter and there happened to be a remote in one of the hundred or so units in stock with a button stuck down and constantly transmitting. I had to drive the vehicle a block away to get it to program.

Thanks. I kinda wanted this to stay in the remote starter/security forum because this could very easily save someone else an hour of their life. I even called audiovox tech support to get their advice after i tried a new brain, and all they had to suggest was to use a relay to trigger the brake input on the brain instead of the factory brake wire (they suggested that maybe there was a rest resistance on the brake wire triggering the remote start to shut down, but looking back now that makes no freakin sense)I for one will never forget this one!

Thats pretty funny,  that actually happened to me.  I put a alarmr/s on my freinds truck and it was fine for a year then one day he calls me and tells me the remote start dosent work. I figured out that it was the brake shut down turning off the r/s the brake wire had 12v everytime the parking lights flashed but couldnt figure out where the voltage was coming from.  He did tell me he just had some aftermarket tail lights put on so i just assumed they screwed somthing up when they put in the new lights and lenses.  The truck was a mid to late 90 s tahoe.  Great post man.

Had that too. Customer used a cheapy bulb that actually shorted the tail and brake lights together.
