I installed an Audiovox Remote start in this vehicle and the starter grinds quickly when the key is turned to the on position when it is in remote start mode. I have never had this happen. Does anyone know what this could be?

You need to isolate the starter wire....or break it with a relay

on a relay use your ground while running to pin 85  12 volts to pin 86. Cut the starter wire the key side goes to pin 30, the starter side to pin 87a.
