1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, no power windows or locks or trunk

Prostart 3200

1. Used the red to ignition switch for the 2 red, fused wires that connect to remote starter.

2.Purple to my Yellow starter wire

3. Yellow(ignition) to my pink ignition wire.

4 Green(2nd accessory/ignition) to my white ignition wire.

5. Orange to my Orange Accesory wire.

Next plug:

1.Black to ground

2.Purple to the colored wire on my injector plug

3.Grey hood switch

4.Orange to my brake switch (white wire)

5.Yellow to my park lights(brown).

1. Programmed remote - good

2. programmed tach - good(according to what the book says should happen.

3. Did not bypass passlock yet - trial mode with key in ignition

4. When I start the car with key, I can put car in idle mode, remove key and the unit functions properly(stays running for spec'd amount of time.

Problem:

1. When I try to remote start the car(with key in ignition, since I have not addressed passlock yet) the car turns over, fires, runs for a second and then dies. Does that 3 times.

2. i did not hook up anything to the accessory plug/harness (glow plug, locks, etc.) I did not  use  that harness at all, still in box.

Trying to get this thing goin before Christmas.............pushing my luck for time though, lol.

Thanks to all who try to help.

You must install a Passlock I bypass, otherwise the car won't start and stay running.

Even with the key in the ignition? On a bypass site it says that if you leave the key in the ignition you can test the remote system to be sure it works. before going on to the passlock system.

Thanks sparky

That explanation of leaving the key in the ignition in the off position does not apply to GM's passlock system. You must hook up the bypass to remote start.

That is excellent to know/hear. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why this is not working. I will get on the bypass.

Thanks a lot !

By the way, I am planning on permanently bypass the passlock by just using the resistor with no relay module. What is your opinion on that?

I am not into permanently bypassing the passlock system, others swear by it. I feel it takes away from the vehicle.

Watch  those J-cars- they have a "bulb check" - a black wire that energizes during crank only-otherwise the dreaded security light comes on and no starts--  takes a passlock relay set-up using 4 relays- or a $7 GMATTII off ebay- to properly bypass it- I know a '97 uses it- I believe it started in '96- only on J-cars- Cavaliers and Sunfires........

You have Pass Lock I.Hence by the name everything involved for the antitheft is inside the ignition tumbler. There is a hall effect switch, magnet and your r-code (reistance value). There is also the crank sense wire or bulb test wire which comes from the ignition switch not the ignition tumbler this wire needs a pulse ground before start. If you have a proper pass-lock by-pass they will have the proper instructions in it.The 3 wires coming off the ignition tumbler yellow, white and black are the main ones you use except for the crank sense coming from the ignition switch.
