negative positive triggers

Hi I'm installing remote starter viper791xv in my dodge dakota 2001 #1 I am just confirming that a negative trigger door pin is 12v when door is closed and 0v when opened?? #2 A positive trigger is 0v when door is closed and 12v when opened?? Do I have to use diodes?? #3Witch side of the diode is negative and witch positive if I can get some diagrams please that would help. Thank you. Adam

You can find a "how to" guide for diodes here. 1. Yes, most of the time, however that is only when the door trigger goes through the bulb. When reading +12V you are actually reading through the filament of the bulb. 2. Correct 3. Yes you should diode isolate the door trigger. For your truck DEI lists this note: DODGE, DAKOTA PICKUP, 2001, Door Trigger The driver door trigger is tan in connector 2, pin 15. The passenger door trigger (and rears on the 4dr) is tan/red in connector 2, pin 13. Use both and diode isolate each. See directfax document #1076 for wiring information. The Central Timer Module is in the driver kick panel.

in 2001 dakota, dome light has a time delay,is it ok to use it as a positive trigger?? wii it work ok with my Viper 791 XV ?? Adam

dose the light stay on for more than 45secs? that is the normal time a alarm takes to engage...

Don't use door pins use the dome light for the door trigger, and most alarms, keyless, etc have it now where you can program it to ignore the open door when it first arms.If it's not custom, then it's not you.
