14V x 3 = 42V  That is probably why they chose 42V's... alot of car systems actually run at or around 14V's and not 12V as technically stated.  Right now most car systems are tolerant to a higher voltage to some degree.

Geez i just upgraded my volkswagon from 6v to 12v.  Bahh, looks like ill be upgradeing once again.
