picking navigation unit

Hey all,

I'm about to purchase a new Expedition and I want to have navigation and DVD in it.  What I really want to do is:

Watch a DVD in the back (controlled from the front)

have navigation up front and listen to a CD simultaneously

I do NOT want to continuously have to load and unload a nav map when my route changes

I'd also like to be able to watch a dvd up front and back simultaneously on occasion so the ability to override

I can get the factory nav and dvd systems for $3k combined but then I can't control the DVD player from up front, and I don't think I can listen to a CD and navigation simultaneously, nor can I alter the nav system while driving.

So, I'd prefer to do something aftermarket but I can't get enough information about the units available from their websites.  Is there a single unit I can purchase to do all the things I want?  If not, I am not oppossed to purchasing a pair of single DIN units if that will help.

My personal favorite that will fill all your requests is the

Eclipse AVN 7000

It'll do everything you want including the dual-zoning (control the DVD for the rear while using Navi up front) since the Navi is on a local HDD instead of being run off of a DVD.

The only thing I did not like about it is that it does not come with a remote... But it is an amazing product.

Expect to pay just a little shy of 2700 installed (depending on where you get it and where it is installed)

Thanks for the heads up, but it looks like the Eclipse can only do 2 things at once, i.e. nav and DVD or nav and CD.

I need something that can do nav and DVD AND CD. 

Is there any company that makes a dual disc DVD player without built-in NAV?  Then I could hook up an external NAV system and be able to play movies, navigation, and CD at the same time.

Yeah,

I think I'm needing to go with 2 separate units.  1 single DIN HDD based (or external) navigation unit with CD and 7" fold out screen, and another single DIN DVD player with no screen to run the back monitors.  Now I just need to figure out which nav system and dvd system to go with.  I've read that the Eclipse are the best, followed closely by Pioneer.  It looks like it's time for me to do some hands on research.

That is a very good idea!  That would allow me to play a DVD in back on the second unit and have navi and CD simultaneously up front!

Is the eclipse modifiable so that my wife can watch a DVD up front while driving?  I was thinking that would be a nice add for her, otherwise I'll have to go with some sort of sun-visor monitor hooked up to the video output.
