I hooked up a relay to operate a simple fast idle solenoid on my Chevy truck. I needed a good strong 12V to the solenoid coil so I opted to wire it via a relay and use the A/C compressor as a swotching source. The relay is paralleled to the compressor circuit but there seems to be some transient voltage as the compressor cuts out which is keeping the fast ide solenoid relay latched for about 7 seconds after the compressor has cut off. I put a digital voltmeter on the circuit and I see that the voltage bleeds down to "zero" volts slowly instead of instantaneously.

Is there a "clipping" cap or diode I can wire in so that the relay drops out right away by bleeding off the transient voltage?

Thanx,

Bud

Some A\C compressors that i have seen have a zener diode built in.  That may be causing your problem. Best bet would be putting a switch on the relay.
